With its claim “Das Auto.” the Volkswagen brand stands for innovative, high quality and reliable cars. With over 70 different models, Volkswagen is represented in all of the main market segments. Sustainable Mobility and Environmental Protection
“Think Blue.” is the heading Volkswagen has given to its activities in the area of ecological sustainability. These include developing alternative powertrains, new mobility concepts such as the car sharing project Quicar and numerous alliances with environmental associations. At all production locations the integration of environmental protection is already prioritized in the planning of processes and the selection of process materials. An environmental management system ensures that all environmental protection measures are regularly monitored and continuously improved. One contributory factor here is the “Think Blue. Factory.” program which is designed to bring Volkswagen ecological leadership. The aim by 2018 is for all production locations worldwide to cut consumption of energy and water, the volume of waste, solvent emissions and emissions of CO2 by 25 percent compared to 2010. All locations and corporate functions work together towards this goal in line with a standardized methodology.
In its globally binding Environmental Principles Products, Volkswagen commits to the continuous improvement of the environmental compatibility and resource efficiency of its vehicles. These principles gave rise to the three areas on which the Environmental Goals of the brand’s Technical Development department are focused: healthcare, climate protection and resource conservation. Volkswagen uses Environmental Commendations to document ecological progress in its vehicles and technologies compared to their predecessors or reference models. These Commendations provide customers, shareholders and other stakeholders inside and outside the company with information about how Volkswagen is making its vehicles, components and processes more environmentally compatible and what has been achieved in this respect.
At Volkswagen social responsibility is firmly anchored in corporate policy. To fulfil its responsibility, Volkswagen promotes social projects, develops innovative employment concepts, invests in the employability of its employees and offers job security. White-collar staff at Volkswagen show responsibility through voluntary work, demonstrating long-term, responsible thinking in a spirit of partnership.
